Thirty-five past trainees maintained their certification by donating at least 20 hours, plus an additional six hours of continuing education, during the past year. Those maintaining certification in 2015 are Mel Anderson, Patty Compton, Dale Mermoud, Dennis Neil, Bruce Stark, Bev Sturgis, Kerry Sturgis, Karen Trotter, and Pat Wakefield, Carthage; Nancy Beckwith, Dave Gribben, Lee Hickman, Kathy McGowan, Amy Parker, Gina Robbins, Lee Rodriguez, Ron Wood, and Marilyn Wylie, Joplin; Marty Bennett, Debbie Fedie, Betty Houser, and Edie Sullivan, Carl Junction; Doris House, Loma Linda; Debbie Woodmansee and David Woodmansee, Oronogo; Chuck Evans, Miller; Paul Duncan and Sharon Duncan, Aurora; Karen Richardson, Monett; Don Kendrick and Colleen Kendrick, Neosho; Cheryl Layne and Linda Wenger, Webb City; and Mary Jean Hockman and Eric Osen, Diamond.
At the latest graduation ceremony special awards were presented to John Morrison, Rookie of the Year; Eric Osen, Coordinators' Service Award; Debbie Fedie, Lou Anne Herron Community Service Award; and, Chuck Evans, Betty Holland Volunteer of the Year Award.
The Master Gardener program is for people who may or may not have gardening experience, but are eager to acquire knowledge and share it with others. During 2015, local Master Gardeners reported 2,903 hours resulting in 1,238 contacts.
