Licking nursery order form is now online
November 07, 2013
The Shortleaf pine (Pinus echinata) is the only pine native to Missouri. It does very well on dry, upland sites in the Ozarks and reaches a mature height of from 80-100 feet. Purchase seedlings from the George O. White State Forest Nursery. For quantities of 10, 25-75 or 100, from $0.16 to $0.60 apiece.

The Missouri Department of Conservation has posted the seedling order form for trees and shrubs from the Licking, Missouri nursery. Since 1947 the George O. White State Forest Nursery has offered Missouri residents seedlings for reforestation, windbreaks, erosion control and wildlife habitat.

Seedling bundles range from $6 to $32, plus sales tax and handling. Prices for each species are listed on the order form. It also outlines the ordering procedure.

The time you place your order-not the delivery date-determines your priority for reserving trees. It is important to place orders as soon as possible because reservations for trees are made on a first-come, first-serve basis until supplies are depleted. Each year many species sell out quickly. You may have your trees shipped to you, or you may pick them up at the nursery.

University of Missouri Guide Sheets: G5008 "How to Plant Forest Trees", G5006 "Before You Order Tree Seedlings", G5900 "Planning Tree Windbreaks in Missouri" and G5009 "Mechanical Tree Planters" are among those available online here. A November gardening calendar may be found here.
