Lipscomb will design and create a sculpture to be placed in one of Joplins public parks. Lipscomb's selection was made by the committee through a call for artists sent in July 2015.
In addition to garnering an honorable mention for his wood sculpture, "Life Is But a River" at the 67th Spiva Membership Show in 2014, Lipscomb in January 2015 was chosen with two others for a six-month Outpost Artist Residency program at Farmers Park in Springfield.
"Mr. Lipscomb is an award-winning artist who brings an in-depth background of creating sculptures in natural settings to highlight the community," said Wendy Brunner-Lewis, JACC communications coordinator.
In addition to taking courses in art at the University of West Florida and Florida Atlantic University, Lipscomb holds a BA in studio art from Drury University and an MA in studio art, sculpture, painting and ceramics from Pittsburg State University. He was an art instructor at Labette Community College from 2004-2009 while running Lipscomb Design Studios where he still creates primarily outdoor sculpture.
Installation is scheduled for spring 2016. This project is funded completely through the Dancing with the Joplin All-Stars event sponsored by the JACC and held at the Downstream Casino Resort in Quapaw, Oklahoma this past March. Originally scheduled for February 28, it had to be postponed due to inclement weather.
