The competition sponsored by the Robert W. Plaster School of Business allowed student programmers to develop original software and mobile applications.
First place and a cash prize of $2,000 went to a team comprised of Kayla Monteleone (senior, graphic arts major, Joplin), Ellen Rogers (sophomore, visual arts, Joplin) and Trevor Hailey. Second place went to the team of Travis Lewis (sophomore, CIS, Seneca) and Matt Eschbach. Third place was awarded to Kyle Ferguson (junior CIS, Joplin) and Alex Gardner. Second place was awarded $1,000, $500 for third place.
This was the inaugural year for the contest, said Sherry Noller, communications and outreach coordinator for the School of Business. It was open to all MSSU students. We tried to promote the development of innovative ideas using technology and offered prizes for the mobile app or software that was the most commercially viable.
We wanted to challenge students to find a problem and develop something with real-life applications to help solve that problem something that if taken to the marketplace, people would have an interest in purchasing it.
