Missouri office offers scriptwriting fellowship
October 22, 2014
The Missouri Film Office is looking for writers who have penned screenplays or TV pilot scripts set in the Show-Me State.

The newly established Missouri Stories Screenwriting Fellowship Program is open to screenwriters from around the country. Sponsored by the Missouri Film Office and the Missouri Motion Media Association, the competition culminates with an all-expenses-paid fellowship experience in Missouri. The deadline for applications is November 28, 2014.

A highlight of the fellowship experience is the opportunity to work with mentors who are established in the film industry, the Missouri Film Office announced. Academy Award nominee for his work on the original Back to the Future screenplay, Bob Gale of University City, California has signed on as a program mentor. Ken LaZebnik, an accomplished writer who worked on the film adaptation of A Prairie Home Companion starring Meryl Streep, and who penned more than 20 episodes of the long-running television show Touched by an Angel, also has signed on.

The opportunity to encourage writers who have projects set in Missouri is exciting, says Andrea Sporcic Klund, film office specialist from the Missouri Film Office, a part of the Missouri Division of Tourism. We cant wait to see the creative perspectives expressed through this project, along with stories inspired by Missouri locations, history and people.

Up to three winners will be selected to attend the fellowship experience in Missouri from February 1-4, 2015. During the fellowship, writers will have one-on-one time with mentors and will tour the areas in which their respective screenplays/scripts are set.

Missouri has a long history as home to great storytellers, including Mark Twain and Laura Ingalls Wilder, and the setting for great stories, such as Meet Me in St. Louis, says Sporcic Klund. The Missouri Stories program gives up-and-coming writers an opportunity to show their skills and share their vision for what could be Missouris next great story.

Full program details, including important dates to remember, rules and the submission form, are available here.
