| JOPLIN - Missouri Southern State University's Law Enforcement Academy has scheduled its latest citizen concealed carry firearms training course to satisfy the training requirement in the state of Missouri.
The basic eight-hour class will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20; Saturday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008. All classes will run from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in Room 125 of the Mills Anderson Criminal Justice Center at Missouri Southern.
An Advanced Concealed Carry Firearms class will be held from 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Nov. 22 for those who have successfully completed the basic class and want to further their firearm skills.
All of those attempting to qualify for the concealed carry permit must complete the basic class. In order to obtain a Concealed Carry permit Missourians must:
- Successfully complete an approve firearms safety course
- Be at least 23 years of age
- Be a U.S. citizen and either have lived in the state for six months or be stationed here as a member of the Armed Forces
- Undergo state and federal criminal background checks
- Pay $100 for a three-year permit
The class has been approved for Barton, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald and Newton County residents. Participants will receive training in the areas of legal requirements of use of force, care and cleaning of firearms, handgun safety, and legal aspects of firearms.
The Missouri Southern State University Law Enforcement Academy will utilize the state-of-the-art live firing range and two state-of-the-art computerized electronic firing ranges. The course includes live fire and simulated fire exercises. Participants must pass a live fire qualification exercise.
