Meet the new pastors

Changes in pastoral assignments have been announced by Bishop James V. Johnston, of the Catholic Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau.

Father Joji Vincent, OSB has begun a new assignment as associate pastor of St. Ann Parish in Carthage and associate pastor at St. Peter the Apostle Parish in Joplin. He was ordained to the priesthood on January 5, 2006, and is a member of the Order of St. Benedict (Benedictines). His previous assignments included churches in Branson, Lebanon and Buffalo.

Also serving as associate pastor at St. Ann Parish and St. Peter's is Father Jos Ivan Araque Acevedo. Born in Colombia, he was ordained on November 26, 1993 by Bishop Dario Monsalve Mejia after attending St. John eudes Seminary in Jerico, Colombia. His previous assignments were in Cape Girardeau.

Father John J. Friedel, the chaplain/director of the Catholic Campus Ministry at Missouri Southern State University and pastor of St. Peter's has been given an additional assignment as pastor of St. Ann's. He also serves the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau as the director of vocations/seminarians. Born in St. Louis, he was ordained on December 27, 1986 in Sacred Heart Church of Florissant by then Bishop John J. Leibrecht for the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau. He earned a BA in communications at St. Louis University and a Master of Divinity from the Kenrick-Glennon Theological Seminary in St. Louis. Previously he had been assigned as associate pastor of St. Agnes Cathedral in Springfield; chaplain at Springfield Catholic High School and pastor in Missouri at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Piedmont, St. George Mission in Van Buren and Our Lady of Sorrows Mission in Williamsville. For 13 years he was director and chaplain at the Catholic Newman Center at Southeast Missouri State university.

Established in 1956, the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau is comprised of 66 parishes, 18 mission churches and four chapels covering 39 counties in southern Missouri covering 25,000 square miles. The Diocese serves a Catholic population of close to 68,000.
