Celebrate July 4th at Landreth Park l-onstot
Updated: 2009-06-27 12:37:22

Singer/songwriter Lee Brice, pictured, headlines Joplin's July 4th celebration

Free musical entertainment, good food and great prizes are just a few of the events scheduled for Freedom Fest 2009, Joplin's Independence Day celebration.

The annual event, sponsored by Hardee's, US Cellular, Quapaw Casino and the city of Joplin, will be held in Landreth Park, south of Ozark Christian College, Main Street and Murphy Blvd, on Saturday, July 4th.

Festivities, including live music, begin at 4 p.m. and continue until the evening ends with a 30-minute fireworks display choreographed to popular music beginning about at 9:45 p.m. Also scheduled are free inflatable kid's games and prizes, toys, food and more from Hardee's; a photo session using Cellular's Pixel Magic Machine; and prizes awarded after a spin of the Quapaw Casino prize wheel. Featured bands include Seven Times Hotter, Felonious Monk, Rukas and Duke Mason.

At 8:25 p.m. the lights will go on for Nashville recording artist Lee Brice, a country singer and songwriter who is described as walking a path between traditional honky tonk sounds and contemporary rock and roll.

There will be designated parking areas with traffic control officers on duty. As an alternative to driving to the park, a shuttle bus service provided by MAPS will originate at the Joplin Memorial Hall parking lot. Shuttle service to Landreth Park is offered without charge and is available between 7-11 p.m. Parents must provide car seats for children four years of age and younger.

Area residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and coolers to Landreth Park. However, alcohol, fireworks, barbecues and fires are strictly prohibited.

My Space users may find sample music of Lee Brice here.
