August 22, 2014
Newton County Drivers can expect nighttime lane closures and some traffic delays on I-44 in Newton County for a resurfacing project beginning the week of August 25, 2014, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Contractor crews from Blevins Asphalt Construction, Inc. of Mt. Vernon will be replacing guardrails and resurfacing shoulders and driving lanes for nearly 8.5 miles on I-44 between Bus. Route 49 (Range Line Road) in Joplin and the Oklahoma/Missouri state line. The cost of the project is $4.1 million.

Crews initially will begin replacing the guardrail in the westbound lanes and will be working during nighttime hours, between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., Monday through Thursday.

The work of removing the old surface and replacing it with new asphalt will also begin in the westbound lanes beginning the week of September 15, 2014. The entire project will be complete by November 1, 2014. Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.
