| The American Water Works Association has a nifty calculator that comes with information to easily figure how much water is being lost through a leaking faucet or running toilet, etc.
According to Richard Basore, watershed field coordinator for the Kansas Department of Health & Environment, drips and leaks may overload a septic system. If it is a hot water faucet that is leaking, it has a real negative environmental effect based upon the amount of energy wasted to heat the water.
Water remains relatively inexpensive causing users to exceed their needs. As a deterrent critics of wasting water believe that water use pricing based upon the greater use the less charged per thousand gallons needs to be revised.
