Local funeral homes offer unique service

Several local funeral homes along with the Last Ride Motorcycle Hearse Company of Springfield now offer a unique tribute to motorcycle enthusiasts. A Harley-Davidson trike is used to pull a hearse carriage from the funeral home to the cemetery. The motorcycle hearse is styled after the carriages used in the Old West, complete with old time gas lamps, leather roof and six-foot glass windows.

The business was started because of an increase in bikers wanting non-traditional funerals, a service that reflects the lifestyle they choose to live.

Those funeral homes participating include Parker Mortuary of Joplin, Ulmer Funeral Home of Carthage, Greenlawn and Walnutlawn Funeral Homes of Springfield, Meadors Funeral Homes of Republic, Billings and Clever, White Funeral Homes of Cassville and J.D. Lee and Sons Funeral Home of Rogersville.
